6 RS Zest dinghies take a splash in Harrington Sound
Earlier this year, U Sail Bermuda took a delivery of 6 new RS Zests, are the first RS Zest boats on the island. The RS Zest is designed by Jo Richards to be the updated best-single hander boat for clubs and commercial training centres for not only the beginner market for RYA adult level 1 and 2 but also for the youth kids stages 1 and 2. This was, because of the demand for something which could cater for the youth syllabus, stage 3 and 4 as the Zest can be adapted to have a jib when not reefed.
Why did the RS Zests appear to U Sail Bermuda? Thomas Penruddocke, director of activities tells us why “The RS Zest is no question, the best single hander boat on the market currently, due to being more stable because it is wider than the RS Quba. This is important as we can cater to a whole range of adults wanting to take to the water on our RYA start sailing courses. The second factor for us was the ability to have up to 3 kids in the boat for our local schools’ program which enables us to have 18 kids sailing in our fleet of 6 RS zests. This means we can be more accessible enabling more participation in sailing in Bermuda. Finally, the RS zest has one unique feature that it has a centerboard which means it prevents damage from groundings as the dagger board will kick up and the same will happen on the rudder.”
